This specific subject provides exceeded out prospect, this has become a wonderfull buy for me personally, The concept arrived securely and speedily Yes Means Yes!: Visions of Female Sexual Power and A World Without Rape

In this groundbreaking new look at rape edited by writer and activist Jaclyn Freidman and Full Frontal Feminism and He’s A Stud, She’s A Slut author Jessica Valenti, the way we view rape in our culture is finally dismantled and replaced with a genuine understanding and respect for female sexual pleasure. Feminist, political, and activist writers alike will present their ideas for a paradigm shift from the “No Means No” model—an approach that while necessary for where we were in 1974, needs an overhaul today.

Yes Means Yes will bring to the table a dazzling variety of perspectives and experiences focused on the theory that educating all people to value female sexuality and pleasure leads to viewing women differently, and ending rape. Yes Means Yes aims to have radical and far-reaching effects: from teaching men to treat women as collaborators and not conquests, encouraging men and women that women can enjoy sex instead of being shamed for it, and ultimately, that our children can inherit a world where rape is rare and swiftly punished. With commentary on public sex education, pornography, mass media, Yes Means Yes is a powerful and revolutionary anthology.

A mans mans take on this book
I am white, 240lb Neanderthal looking 23 yr veteran of military Special Operations, a former Pro cage fighter and exist to say the least in a testosterone laden male work environment rampant with the negative views and stereotypes on womens' sexuality one might expect. I am not sure if I am alone in my views or others just play along out of fear of being ostracized for expressing their support of womens' empowerment. This book hits the nail right on the head and articulates the societal double standards and male fear of powerful women and their comfort and equal participation in sex and their sexual choices. I have two daughters and a son and I want them all to grow up to understand that women are equal in every way and deserve to be proud, in control and free of judgement for having an opinion and say in the collaboration of sexual relations (amongst other things) with their partners. this books expresses and explains clearly the process towards this in our society. I recommend this...
Really Good
The essays in this great book are compiled and analyzed by Jaclyn Friedman and Jessica Valenti and the book's structure reflects the authors' blogging experience, which makes for an incredibly helpful and original format. This book is beautifully constructed, extremely well-argued, and offers a lot of material to think about.

The authors of these essays look at the different ways in which the traditionalist approach supports and enables rape and sexual assault. The conservative gender roles that present a woman as a secondary being actually promote the culture of rape: "While right-wing groups certainly don't come out in support of rape, they do promote an extremist ideology that enables rape and promotes a culture where sexual assault is tacitly accepted. The supposedly 'pro-family' marital structure, in which sex is exchanged for support and the woman's identity is absorbed into her husband's, reinforces the idea of women as property and as simple accoutrements to a man's...
The new Bible of the sociology of gender nerd
A heavy hitter from the feminist blogoshpere! Good mix of personal essays, prose and more academic stuff that painted a great picture of current issues, theories and ideas about consent. I was impressed by the information they had on the current social climate of gender...well documented topics such as abstinence only sex education were given a bit of spotlight but more unexpected subjects were given coverage as well. This diversity included topics such as rape of illegal Latin-American immigrants during border crossing and on how female sexuality is used in torture in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay. Interesting stuff! I hate to say it but usually I'm not surprised by personal essays on feminism and gender anymore. This is especially true for ones that revolve around popular third wave theory...identity politics, intersectionality, gender as a social construct, consent, promiscuity and so on. I learned new ways of thinking about all these concepts though so if you're one of those...

If you eat out of boredom or loneliness, this is for you.
I've lost all the excess weight because of this book! The suggestions have saved me thousands and thousands of calories. It is a list of things to do instead of eat.

I used to think that I was a compulsive eater, but really, I didn't have any alternative behaviors to lean on in times of boredom, loneliness, or stress. The book taught me how important it is for my mental health to have hobbies, do puzzles, and play games. I used to think that those were frivolous and childish pastimes. Now I know it is a sign of a mature person who has positive coping skills. I have expanded the list to include what I really enjoy and what I can really get absorbed in. Computer Mahjong, the Rubix's Slide, clicker training my dogs, and blogging (I think blogging is suggested in the book). I'm so glad I read this book and put the suggestions into practice. I can't recommend this book enough.

Also, if you are stuggling with an addiction of any kind, I believe you would benefit from...
A Book for Stress Eaters
I saw this book in the Washington Post. A few days later I actually hear the author on the radio. She seemed to make a lot of sense. I was surprised at how much this book described my stress eating to a tee. I can identify with many of the stories. I keep the book in the kitchen and read it when I'm tempted to eat because I'm nervous or stressed out (which is often!). It's helped me a lot.

A great resource to help stop mindless eating

In an age where birth has often been overtaken by obstetrics, Dr Dick-Read's philosophy is still as fresh and relevant as it was when he originally wrote this book. He unpicks every possible root cause of western woman's fear and anxiety in pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding and does so with overwhelming heart and empathy. Essential reading for all parents-to-be, childbirth educators, midwives and obstetricians!

Review :
GREAT BOOK - HORRIBLE COVER
My mother gave me this book when I was expecting my 2nd child. I loved it. It was my bible for the 9 months of pregnancy. This book helped me to decrease my labor time by over 80%. I would highly encourage any new mothers who are afraid to read this (but cover up the cover before you give it to them). This book, even though written by a man, still today is a guide to natural childbirth and helping a woman naturally through the great miracle of humanity. Once you read it, it requires commitment and dedication to the principles it teaches, but I can tell you it is very worth the effort. Working with your body, instead of fighting it, is the fundamental principle. A must read for any woman expecting. Just cover the front cover with paper, that is if you want the expectant mother to read it. ~KS

LOVE this book
Explains the process of labor in such detail. Also dives into how fear works against you, and how you can recognize it. His view on women laboring is extremely respectful and encouraging.
I would even say that, this book would be a good read for someone wanting to support, a lady in labor.
Good book to help prepare for labor.

Very intellectual/technical but repetitive and outdated
I found the intellectual and technical aspects of the writing very educational. I also found the basic explanation of why pain occurs during birth [i.e. fear = pain, no fear = no pain] to be enlightening but that was about all I took from the book and if you read this last sentence, you don't need to make the purchase.

I was hoping to walk away with more ideas on how to manage pain naturally throughout the three stages of labor but in the end, the only explanation was "as long as you aren't afraid, you won't have to deal with pain." I just don't buy this..... I mean, c'mon, you put a picture of a screaming woman on the front cover who is delivering her own baby and then go on to say that labor and delivery can occur without any pain? Oh; I see, you use the term "discomfort" instead, right labor is "uncomfortable" not painful. OK.

In addition, the book tells story after story of the experiences of women who were "forced" to take medical pain relief. I found the...

Review :
The best potty training guide!!!
As a pediatric nurse & father of a 15 year old young man, the potty training methods in this book are priceless! I was surprised to learn that 50% of the world's children are potty trained by 1 year old (except in America). A child that can verbally express themselves will be the most successful with potty training (in my opinion), as communication is very important to executing the methods in this book.
You will also learn:
-The power of including your child in the potty selection process.
-The importance of what food to stop, start and continue for best results during potty training.
-potty seat vs. potty chair (PROS & CONS of both)
-Inspirational: Principles of Success
-Why accidents only add to learning and so much more....

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a little one that needs potty training and even all expecting parents should read it too. I will definitely recommend to all my patients 6 months and older! ;)...
Potty Training
I am a grandma that does day care for my daughter's two boys, one is six months the other is twenty eight months. Grandma has decided it is time to begin potty training. I find this book informative, mommy is also reading the book so we are both on the same page with the training. I don't expect miracles, but feel all these suggestions will definitely help. Grandma is going into this with a very positive attitude, and a very loving heart.

Potty training fast and simple..,
I bought this book for my daughter who is starting to potty train my grand daughter at 20 months. She is so happy that she has a guide rather than trying to work it all out for herself. It has made the whole process not only painless but the book is effective as my grand daughter is responding to the techniques, its five stars from her and so five stars from me as well!

Winner of the 2014 Living Now Book Award for Inspirational Memoir

After having a nationally televised panic attack, Dan Harris knew he had to make some changes. A lifelong nonbeliever, he found himself on a bizarre adventure involving a disgraced pastor, a mysterious self-help guru, and a gaggle of brain scientists. Eventually, Harris realized that the source of his problems was the very thing he always thought was his greatest asset: the incessant, insatiable voice in his head, which had propelled him through the ranks of a hypercompetitive business, but had also led him to make the profoundly stupid decisions that provoked his on-air freak-out.

Eventually Harris stumbled upon an effective way to rein in that voice, something he always assumed to be either impossible or useless: meditation, a tool that research suggests can do everything from lower your blood pressure to essentially rewire your brain. 10% Happier takes readers on a ride from the outer reaches of neuroscience to the inner sanctum of network news to the bizarre fringes of America’s spiritual scene, and leaves them with a takeaway that could actually change their lives.

Dan Harris
Gretchen Rubin
Gretchin Rubin interviews Dan Harris about 10% Happier

I met Dan Harris when a mutual friend suggested that we’d enjoy talking about habits, happiness, and meditation. We had a great discussion, and in fact, Dan was one of several people who inspired me to try meditating. 10% Happier is his hilarious, thought-provoking book about his experiences with meditation. I knew Dan had done a lot of thinking about the relationship of habits and happiness, and how to use habits to foster happiness, so I was eager to hear what he had to say.

Gretchen: What’s a simple habit that consistently makes you happier?

Dan: I never in a million years thought I’d be the type of person who’d say this, but my answer is … meditation.I had always assumed that meditation was for robed gurus, acid-droppers, and people who keep yurts in their backyard. But then I heard about the explosion of scientific research that shows the practice has an almost laughably long list of health benefits, from lowering your blood pressure to boosting your immune system to essentially rewiring your brain for happiness. I started with five minutes a day, and very quickly noticed three benefits: 1. Increased focus, 2. A greater sense of calm, and 3. A vastly improved ability to jolt myself out of rumination and fantasies about the past or the future, and back to whatever was happening right in front of my face.Over time (I’ve now been at it for about four years and do 35 minutes a day), an even more substantial benefit kicked in: I created a different relationship to the voice in my head. You know the voice I’m talking about. It’s what has us reaching into the fridge when we’re not hungry, checking our e-mail while we’re in conversation with other people, and losing our temper only to regret it later. The ability to see what’s going on in your head at any given moment without reacting to it blindly—often called “mindfulness”—is a superpower.I’m certainly not arguing that meditation is a panacea. I still do tons of stupid stuff – as my wife will attest. But the practice has definitely made me happier, calmer, and nicer.

Gretchen: What’s something you know now about forming healthy habits that you didn’t know when you were 18 years old?

Dan: A neuroscientist friend of mine once told me, “The brain is a pleasure-seeking machine. ” Usually, we do what makes us feel good. What I know now about habit formation that I didn’t know then is that I generally cannot create or break habits unless there is compelling self-interest involved. So, for example, with meditation, I was motivated to start the habit by the science that says it’s good for you—and I’ve been able to maintain it because, while the act of meditating is often quite tough, the “off-the-cushion” benefits are so readily apparent to me.

Gretchen: Do you have any habits that continually get in the way of your happiness?

Dan: Two biggies:1. Multitasking: I’ve seen all the studies that say our brains are not capable of concentrating on more than one thing at a time and that multitasking is a huge drag on efficiency and productivity. And yet, I still frequently find myself flitting between email, Twitter, phone calls, and whatever work I’m actually supposed to be doing.2. Mindless eating: I try very hard to eat healthfully, but I am a huge sucker for pasta, cheeseburgers, and cookies—and when I get into a feeding frenzy, it’s hard for me to stop. These episodes are almost always followed by a shame spiral. In theory, meditation should help with the above, since it teaches you to pay careful attention to whatever you’re doing right now. Alas, I still struggle. Hence the title of my book.

Gretchen: Have you ever managed to break an unhealthy habit? If so, how?

Dan: In my early thirties, as a young reporter for ABC News, I spent many years covering wars. When I got back from one particularly long and hairy run in Baghdad, I became depressed. In an act of towering stupidity, I began to self-medicate, dabbling with cocaine and ecstasy. In hindsight, it was an attempt, at least partly, to recreate some of the thrill of the war zone.A side-effect of all of this, as my doctor later explained to me, was that the drugs increased the level of adrenaline in my brain, which is what, in all likelihood, produced a panic attack I had on live television in 2004 on Good Morning America. The shrink I consulted about this decreed in no uncertain terms that I needed to stop doing drugs—immediately. Faced with the potential demise of my career, breaking this habit was a pretty obvious call.

Gretchen: Have you ever made a flash change, where you changed a major habit very suddenly?

Dan: In the summer after I graduated from high school, I did experience a “flash change. ” I was in my car, driving to go see some friends, and I decided—seemingly out of nowhere—that after years of being a mediocre high school student, I was going to truly apply myself in the next phase of my life. The next year, when my father saw my first college report card, he nearly cried.Interestingly, the fact that I did well in college has had zero practical impact on my career in television news. I don’t think any of my employers has ever asked about my grades. But that flash change established a long-lasting habit of hard work and ambition. Which, it must be said, has sometimes been to my detriment. It was, I now believe, my fervent desire to excel at my job that led me to plunge headlong into war zones without considering the psychological consequences—which, in turn, led to the drugs and the panic attack. I’ve found that meditation has really helped me strike a better balance between striving and stress.

Review :
A Gem
Well, I *have* read the book--got it on my Kindle a few minutes after 9 p.m., read til midnight and finished it this morning. Harris is funny, self-deprecating and one hell of a writer. I've been interested in Buddhism and mindfulness since a trip to Burma last year but did nothing concrete towards pursuing a practice. Now I am enthused and confident that I see how to begin. And, more importantly, how to continue when the going gets challenging. I wish I had more stars to give.

This book reads like a meditation journal.
I just finished reading 10% happier, and I really wanted to like it. I didn't. Here is why:

- If you are someone who is actually seeking advice on meditation technique, DO NOT buy this book. Even if you are a type-A, work-in-high-stress-situations-type, you would benefit much more from an author such as Jack Kornfield, who actually gives you undiluted Buddhist technique written in an incredibly user-friendly way. Jack gives you clear directions and rationale for why certain meditation techniques work. You'll try a few and see which ones work for you, and not use the rest. This book does not give you meditation instruction that works universally.

- The book ends with a a list of mindfulness "how-to's." The problem with this list is that, unlike the list of a truly experienced meditator who has the ability to distill really hard stuff into universally applicable guidance, Dan's list is HIS list. It didn't resonate for me. "Don't be a jerk" -...
The Monkey Mind
I have a confession. Like the author of 10% Happier, I have an inner voice. A voice that is part fairy godmother, most troll under the bridge. A voice that can reassure but more often than not disparages. A voice that never shuts up. Buddhists call this voice "the monkey mind", the mind that all humans possess and the mind that Dan Harris tames with meditation. With surprising candor and wicked humor Harris chronicles his long and strange journey to become a better man--from his nationally televised anxiety attack on Good Morning America, to his abuse of cocaine, to his insatiable ambition as a journalist, and to his growing awareness that he needed to disentangle from "the clammy embrace of self-obsession." And although he remains skeptical of the new age spirituality in Buddhism, he finds solace in its practice of meditation and its concept of mindfulness--by learning to respond thoughtfully, rather than react thoughtlessly, to the world around him. Couldn't we all benefit from such...
