"Protocols" was the first Lifestyle book I'd read, and it changed my life forever. I'd already known I was submissive, but by the third chapter I realized that I was a slave! Dr. Rubel allows us see how he has used protocols to create a structure that keeps the M/s relationship alive, not just day to day but moment to moment, over both time and distance. The beauty of this book is that it is written to be a snapshot, if you will, of an ongoing Master/slave relationship, which the reader can use as a spring-board to create your own protocols that work for you according to your individual needs. And frankly, not just within the Master/slave dynamic either; even non-lifestyle folk could benefit from taking the examples given and creating a structure for on-going communication and a healthier relationship all around.

A good read, but not a template.

First off the book does a wonderful job of explaining various different aspects and dynamics of the lifestyle, which for readers new to the lifestyle will find very helpful. The contents draw in great detail the protocols expected of a slave under what I would call a financially stable, and secure business man. The books also lends a lot of useful ideas for those seeking to establish boundaries and topics for their own set of protocols. The formal settings and aspects help to re-establish many forgotten standards. However I do find only one flaw. For many middle class readers hoping to use the book as a reference for the basis of their own protocols, the feeling may be lacking. The back drop of the book is from the unique relationship between the author and his slave. His dynamics may vary from yours. But the book does offer many wonderful aspects and is certainly worth the reading.

She is correct when she tells the reader that there is no such thing as "safe sex" unless it is with an uninfected partner and you remain monogamous for life "historically we called that relationship marriage". She is also correct when she tells us that condoms are next to worthless when it comes to STD's like HPV the number one STD in America that kill thousands of women every year in America not counting the thousands of early hysterectomys. It seems that the negative reviews come from people who do not want to be confused with the facts but simply want to call Mrs Meeker "names". Hurray for a refreshingly honest look at a difficult subject. She tells the reader how...
A must read for concerned parents
Dr. Meeker has written a very informative yet alarming book on the realities of teens having sex even with multiple partners. She uses real life stories to exemplify her primary point that teens who choose to have sex and most likely with multiple partners will contract at least one STD. Dr. Meeker titles her book "Epidemic..." because teens all across the United States are contracting STD's at an alarming rate. Dr. Meeker states, "An epidemic occurs when...there is an extensive and growing prevalence of a disease that attacks many people simultaneously." Dr. Meeker's book is chalked full of current statistics and well documented endnotes that gives reliable and necessary support of her claim that there is an epidemic among teens.

Meg Hickling is a nurse who addresses all the stages of child develeopment and what the kids need to know as preschoolers, elementary kids, junior high, senior high--it is so helpful, and it was a great starting point to frame a discussion with my husband about what we should be telling our boys, 9 and 6. If you liked the "What to Expect" books the tone of this book will be very comfortable to you.

Great book to help ease a parent into talking about sex with your kids. Helpful explanations for why it is important to start this conversation at a young age. Every parent should receive a copy when they take their baby home from the hospital.

I was afraid I would be giving away too much information too soon but I don't believe in lying to my kids either. This author really helped me understand why it is so important to start young to protect our children. A knowledgeable child is a safe child!

I love the fact that I can read word for word how she reccomends explaining things if I'm not sure how to put something into words. And the funny stories just make it not so difficult to keep reading.
